AI & Chat Issues
AI chat is not responding
- →Check your internet connection
- →Verify your API key is correct (Settings → Void → Provider)
- →If using Safe Appeals Cloud, check that you have credits remaining
- →Try reloading the window (Ctrl+Shift+P → 'Developer: Reload Window')
- →Check if the model service is experiencing issues (Anthropic, OpenAI status pages)
'API key not found' or 'Authentication failed' error
- →Open Settings (Ctrl+,) and search for 'Void'
- →Ensure your API key is entered correctly with no extra spaces
- →For Safe Appeals Cloud: sign out and sign back in
- →Try generating a new API key from your provider's dashboard
AI responses are slow
- →Try a faster model (Claude Haiku or GPT-4 Mini)
- →Reduce the amount of context/files included in your message
- →Start a new conversation to clear accumulated context
- →Check your internet connection speed
Ctrl+K quick edit not working
- →Make sure you have text selected in the editor
- →Check that a model is configured in Settings → Void → Ctrl+K Model
- →Verify your API key/credits are working
- →Try pressing Escape first, then Ctrl+K again
Safe Appeals Cloud Issues
Cannot sign in to Safe Appeals Cloud
- →Make sure you're using Google sign-in
- →Check that pop-ups are not blocked in SafeAppeals
- →Try clearing cookies and signing in again
- →If using a work Google account, check with your IT admin
Credits not showing after purchase
- →Wait a few seconds—credits are added instantly but may take a moment to sync
- →Click the refresh button in the dashboard
- →Sign out and sign back in
- →Check your email for a receipt confirming the purchase
- →Contact support@safeappeals.com if credits don't appear after 5 minutes
'Insufficient credits' error
- →Check your balance in the dashboard
- →Purchase more credits if needed
- →Consider using a smaller/cheaper model
- →Check if you accidentally have a very large file in context
Application Issues
SafeAppeals won't start / crashes on launch
- →Try running as Administrator
- →Check Windows Event Viewer for error details
- →Disable any antivirus temporarily to test
- →Try resetting user data: delete %APPDATA%\SafeAppeals folder
- →Reinstall SafeAppeals from the latest release
Extensions not working
- →Open the Extensions view (Ctrl+Shift+X)
- →Check if the extension is enabled
- →Try disabling and re-enabling the extension
- →Check the extension's output in Output panel (View → Output)
- →Reinstall the extension
File not saving / 'Permission denied'
- →Check if the file is read-only
- →Ensure you have write permissions to the folder
- →Check if another program has the file open
- →Try 'Save As' to a different location
- →Run SafeAppeals as Administrator
Performance is slow
- →Close unused tabs and editors
- →Disable extensions you're not using
- →Increase available memory in settings
- →Check if antivirus is scanning SafeAppeals folders
- →Exclude workspace folders from antivirus real-time scanning
General Fixes
When in doubt, try these general troubleshooting steps:
- Reload the window: Press
Ctrl+Shift+P, type "Reload Window", and press Enter - Restart SafeAppeals: Close completely and reopen
- Check for updates: Download the latest version from GitHub
- Reset settings: If you suspect a settings issue, try resetting to defaults
- Check logs: Help → Toggle Developer Tools → Console tab
