Agent Tools
SafeAppeals ships first-party tools with its product extensions. In Agent mode, the AI can invoke these tools to read, organize, draft, and update your case — often with your confirmation before anything changes.
Search, organize, and draft — never send on your behalf
Billing Timer
Check state and start/stop time entries
Documents
Create, read, and edit Word and Excel files
How it works: Tools come from SafeAppeals extensions — not generic MCP servers. Switch to Agent mode in chat; the assistant picks tools when your request needs them. Sensitive actions (starting a timer, creating a draft) may ask you to confirm first.
Email Tools
Available after you connect an inbox via Service Connections (Gmail, Microsoft, and similar). The agent can read and organize mail and prepare drafts — it cannot send email. You review and send from the Email Dashboard.
| Tool | What it does |
|---|---|
safeappeals_email_search | Search messages across connected accounts |
safeappeals_email_listThreads | List conversation threads (with filters) |
safeappeals_email_getMessage | Read a specific message and metadata |
safeappeals_email_listAccounts | List connected email accounts |
safeappeals_email_listFolders | List folders/labels for an account |
safeappeals_email_listTags | List tags applied in SafeAppeals |
safeappeals_email_tagThread | Apply a tag to a thread |
safeappeals_email_untagThread | Remove a tag from a thread |
safeappeals_email_deleteTag | Delete a tag definition |
safeappeals_email_hideThread | Hide a thread from the dashboard |
safeappeals_email_unhideThread | Restore a hidden thread |
safeappeals_email_linkThreadToCase | Link a thread to the current case |
safeappeals_email_unlinkThreadFromCase | Unlink a thread from a case |
safeappeals_email_createDraft | Create a reply or new draft (can attach workspace files — you send from the dashboard) |
No agent send: There is no tool to send mail. Draft attachments are stored securely on your machine; you attach documents, review, and click Send in the Email Dashboard when ready.
Billing Timer Tools
Legal billing timer — separate from the Audio Recorder session timer. Uses 6-minute increments, UTBMS codes, and matter tracking.
| Tool | What it does |
|---|---|
safeappeals_timer_getState | Current timer state — running or idle, elapsed time, matter, rate, description |
safeappeals_timer_start | Start the billing timer (confirmation required) |
safeappeals_timer_stop | Stop the timer and save a time entry (confirmation required) |
Document Tools
Create, read, and edit Word (.docx) and Excel (.xlsx) files in your workspace. The agent can work with an open editor or headlessly when the file is closed.
| Tool | What it does |
|---|---|
safeappeals_docx_read | Read plain text from a Word document |
safeappeals_docx_create | Create a new .docx from title, body, and blocks |
safeappeals_docx_edit | Edit a .docx (open editor or headless) |
safeappeals_xlsx_read | Read workbook structure and cell values |
safeappeals_xlsx_create | Create a new .xlsx from sheets and rows |
safeappeals_xlsx_edit | Edit an existing spreadsheet (open or headless) |
safeappeals_openDocument | Open a .docx or .xlsx in the visual editor (hybrid: editor when you want to review, headless when you do not) |
See Document Editing for the full editor experience.
Timeline Tools
Manage case events, deadlines, and linked documents in .safeAppeals/timeline.json.
| Tool | What it does |
|---|---|
timeline_add_event | Add a new timeline event |
timeline_update_event | Update an existing event |
timeline_delete_event | Remove an event |
timeline_get_events | List events (with optional filters) |
timeline_link_document | Link a workspace file to an event |
timeline_get_deadlines | Query upcoming or overdue deadlines |
Agent vs Plan vs MCP
- Agent mode — Full access to built-in tools above (plus file search, Private Search when configured, and more).
- Plan mode — Read-only on case files; writes plan files only. After you approve and start implementation, Agent mode can use domain tools — still no agent email send.
- MCP servers — Optional third-party extensions. For email, prefer Service Connections and first-party email tools. See MCP Servers for advanced setups.
